Oil change

The oil used for the engine lubrication is a mineral oil for classic cars, and its viscosity, which is 20W50, is adapted for the engines from the sixties. We can easily find in specialized stores two different choices for this kind of oil:
  • Elf HTX Retro 2, 20W50, mineral oil, for classic cars from the sixties to the eighties.

  • MOTUL, 20W50, mineral oil, for classic cars from the fifties and after.
The avantage of the MOTUL oil is that we can buy it into 2 litres small cans, which is not the case of the Elf HTX Retro 2 mineral oil that we can only buy into 5 litres cans.

It is more practical to always have a 2 litres small can of oil in the trunk of the car in case it is needed to adjust the engine oil level.

According to the user manual of the car, the oil change has to be done every 6000 miles (about 9650 km) and the oil filter should be replaced half the time, every 12000 miles (about 19300 km).

The user manual also specifies that during hot weather or dusty conditions, or during cold weather when many stops and starts are done close together with a frequent use of the choke, or also if the engine covered a very long distance, then it is better to do the oil change every 3000 miles and to replace the oil filter every 6000 miles.
